Kwahulé: Royal Court Theatre

Koffi Kwahule is a west african writer who writes in french.

This is an amazing, beautiful play about immigrants in Paris trying to preserve their traditions, and the rebellion of the young against them. Bintou is a young girl who leads a gang of hooligans; to try and control her, her family arrange for her circumcision.

Originally commissioned as a reading by the Royal Court, it was staged a few years later at the Arcola theatre, in London.
